Firearms Safety Course Costs

P.A.L.  =  Possession Acquisition License
These courses are Federal requirements to get a firearms license to be in possession and acquire firearms.

  • Registration in advance is mandatory
  • Must bring 1 (one) piece of government photo ID on the first day of the class

With the new procedures after reopening from Covid-19, I will be reducing my class sizes and offering more private courses, but am still required to do a minimum of 8 hours of instruction for the non-restricted course, and 6 hours for the restricted course.  Please note that the non-restricted must be passed before you can take the restricted course, and due to the required physical distancing and cleaning measures it may take longer to complete each course.

I will be offering private courses for people who have a suitable location (residence, office) with enough space to provide for proper distancing. Courses with 4 or less people can be completed in one day (10-11 hrs).  If there are 5 or more people, a second day will be required due to the additional time needed to complete the practical testing (20-30 min per person).

Non-restricted or restricted courses with 4 or less people can be completed in one day (10-11 hrs).  If there are 5 or more people, a second day will be required due to the time needed to complete the practical testing (20-30 min per person).

I only offer combined private courses for the non-restricted and restricted with 6 or less people due to the instruction and testing minimum time requirements. Combined courses require 2 days.

The cost structure per person is as follows:

Private Classes (classes that you request and setup with people that you know)

I will offer private courses that you request for a maximum of 8 people.  I only offer combined for the non-restricted and restricted courses with 6 or less people due to the instruction and testing minimum time requirements. Combined courses require 2 days.

  • 1 person - $600 (non-restricted or restricted) / $900 (combined)

  • 2 - 3 students - $300 (non-restricted or restricted) / $450 (combined)

  • 4 - 6 students - $240 (non-restricted or restricted) / $360 (combined)

  • Max 8 students - $200 / person (non-restricted or restricted, no combined courses due to instruction and testing minimum time requirements)

Group Class
(at the Community Centre in Sooke)

For non-private groups of 8 to 12 people, I set up courses with a date when the venue at the Sooke Community Hall and myself are available.  I do not offer combined courses for these large groups due to time restrictions.  Once a date has been set, I send an email to the people on my wait list offering the course to them on a first come basis.

  • Max 8-12 students - $200 / person (non-restricted or restricted, no combined courses due to instruction and testing minimum time requirements)

Weekend classes only, but a weekday can be arranged if necessary.

If you don't want a private class and would prefer to join a large class, we will put your name on a waitlist and contact you once we have dates set.
